Congratulations to SEDA's National Public Speaking Delegates: Julia P., Campbell; Jason X., Walter Murray and Josha N. and Hannah C. of SHED.
Each season, SEDA holds a North (December) and South (January)
Public Speaking Workshop and Tournament.
This event is open to all Saskatchewan youth from grades
5-12.
In the morning, SEDA arranges for a guest speaker to work with
participants on impromptu speaking, including improv and drama
games. In the afternoon, particpants compete in four
categories:
- an impromptu co-ordinate debate round
- impromptu speech
- interpretive reading from a published work of their choice
- persuasive speech on a topic of their choice
Each category is scored out of 25, for a total score of 100.
Cash prizes are awarded to the top 3 speakers in both Junior (gr.
5-8) and Senior (gr. 9-12).
From this event, SEDA sends four delegates to Speech Nationals: the top Senior North Rural, Saskatoon, South Rural and Regina speakers at the two Provincial Speech Tournaments held each winter.
This event is hosted each February at St. John's Ravenscourt in
Winnipeg, Manitoba.
