Tournament Etiquette
Been having trouble at tournaments? Does it feel like you're out of sync? Want to know how to behave at a tournament? Or perhaps, you would like to be better prepared to tell your friend how they should behave. Then read our handy Brush Up on Tournament Etiquette
.

Notes regarding qualifying for 2009-10 Events

National Seminar
Normally, delegates are selected by the following method:
Individuals must have attended Tournament I in the Open
category in the fall of 2009. Then, 40%
of  their tournament score will be combined
with their individual Provincial score from any category
in 2009. HOWEVER, due to the early date of the Seminar,
SEDA ranked the debaters based on 40% of their best two scores from 2008-2009 and 60% of their 2009 Provincials score. SEDA first ranked debaters in Open and if no delegate was available, selected from the Novice category. Coaches were notified if they had eligible delegates.

Westerns
Westerns Delegates will be selected from the Novice category from now on.

Provincials
This year, debaters only have to debate a minimum of two tournaments, and not necessarily with the same partner in order to qualify for Provincials. SEDA will first rank everyone on the basis of two tournaments/same partner, but then, coaches can request rankings for hybrid teams. SEDA hopes this will increase participation and stop penalizing debaters who have partners with other committments.

National Championships

Delegates will be selected by the following method:
Debate teams must have attended either Tournament I or
II in the Open category in the fall of 2009. Then, 50%
of the best of their two tournaments will be combined
with their individual Provincial score from any category
in 2009. SEDA will Rank the debaters and notify
their coaches of their qualifying rank.

SEDA will cover the registration and travel expenses
of one coach and the top team. Up to two more teams
will be invited to attend, with their travel and
registration expenses pro-rated equally up to a cost
of $5000 for all attending. The Coach is to be the
regular coach of the Top Team, unless that coach has
already attended.

The 2010 Championships will be hosted in Victoria, BC. Watch for more information.

Televised Canada Day Debate
The Top North and Top South Open teams at Tournament
III will debate the Provincials Resolution against
each other in a taped debate by Access Communications.

Model Legislature
I hope to  avoid any major potential conflicts when
setting the date, so please let me know of any spring
dates (March-May) that are VERY BAD for you or your school!
